RALEIGH, NC — After the President’s call for Senate Republicans to support an economic relief package with “much higher numbers,” it’s clear — no one is pleased with Senator Tillis’ inability to deliver additional COVID-19 relief to North Carolina.
Senator Tillis has been following Mitch McConnell’s lead, failing to act for months, and packing up for recess without getting the job done. He’s pushing a bill that serves more as a political lifeline for himself than meeting the needs of North Carolinians, and now even the President is calling for more.
Cal Cunningham called out Senator Tillis in a press call last week. The Fayetteville Observer wrote: “A COVID relief bill that the Senate is expected to vote on this week appears to be an attempt to ‘provide political cover to Thom Tillis rather than solve the problems, if they’re working toward some sort of partisan vote,’ Cunningham said. ‘We’ve always known, I’ve said from the beginning, that we were gonna need bipartisan action in the Senate. And that’s going to require some give and take.’”
Cal released his COVID-19 priorities in May and priorities for the next round of relief, and has been calling on Senator Tillis to take action to support North Carolinians struggling through this public health and economic crisis including by:
“As millions remain out of work through no fault of their own and are struggling to make ends meet, the inaction North Carolinians are seeing out of Senator Tillis in Washington is inexcusable,” said Kate Frauenfelder, a spokeswoman for Cal Cunningham’s campaign. “Now, even the President thinks so, too. It’s time for Senator Tillis to step up for the people of North Carolina and finally provide the critical relief they need.”
