RALEIGH, NC – Harvey Gantt, a trailblazer in North Carolina politics, endorsed Cal Cunningham for U.S. Senate in North Carolina. Following seven years on the Charlotte City Council, Gantt served as the first African-American Mayor of Charlotte from 1983 to 1987. He was also twice the Democratic nominee against Republican Senator Jesse Helms.

“I am proud to endorse Cal Cunningham for U.S. Senate,” said Gantt. “The historic moment we are facing as a country requires great leadership and courage to stand up for what’s right. I know Cal will be that champion for the great state of North Carolina.”

This endorsement builds on endorsements of over 140 community leaders and local elected officials across North Carolina. Cal has also received several other endorsements from key state organizations like North Carolina Association of Educators and NC State AFL-CIO, and publications like The Charlotte PostIndy Week, the Charlotte Observer, and the Raleigh News & Observer.
