RALEIGH, NC – The News and Observer reported today that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has endorsed Cal Cunningham’s campaign for U.S. Senate following the endorsements of more than 140 North Carolina leaders and multiple organizations, and support from all 100 North Carolina counties for his campaign.
The News and Observer noted that Cal “has easily topped the three-person Democratic field in fundraising and endorsements since entering the race in June.” Just this morning, Cal’s campaign announced that it had received support in all 100 North Carolina counties, marking a major milestone for the campaign and continued momentum.
“Cal Cunningham has an impressive record of service to North Carolina and our country as a military prosecutor, a business leader and a public servant, and he will continue to serve with distinction in the U.S. Senate,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, DSCC Chair. “Whether it’s bringing down the cost of health care and prescription drugs or creating economic opportunity for all North Carolina families, Cal is deeply committed to fighting for his state and taking on the political corruption in Washington that is blocking progress on so many critical issues. Cal has demonstrated he has what it takes to flip this seat, and we look forward to supporting his campaign to give North Carolinians the representation they deserve in the Senate.”
“This campaign has always been about listening to North Carolinians, and building a movement across North Carolina to bring better leadership to Washington and a better future for our state,” said Cal Cunningham. “I’m incredibly proud of the coalition we’re building across North Carolina, county by county, as we travel the state, and I’m grateful that folks across the country are recognizing that momentum as well. Together, we’re going to beat Thom Tillis and move North Carolina forward.”
The DSCC endorsement is the latest in a long line of endorsements from local leaders and national organizations. Earlier this month, Cal announced 140 endorsements from leaders across North Carolina. Cal has also received the support of major organizations including End Citizens United, VoteVets, the League of Conservation Voters, the Voter Protection Project, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
Last quarter, Cal “edged Tillis out” in individual contributions, and built strong small dollar support, as 94 percent of all donations last quarter were under $100.
