RALEIGH, NC — Today Senator Tillis voted for the second time on a sham bill that was “destined” to fail. The intention is clear — less than two weeks before Election Day, Senator Tillis is more interested in protecting his own political security than actually helping the people of North Carolina through this crisis.
Cal Cunningham released the following statement on the vote:
“The goal of this bill is not to solve North Carolinians problems, but to solve Senator Tillis’ political problems. The fact is this bill cuts unemployment assistance in half, does nothing to help local governments keep essential workers like first responders and public safety workers on the payroll, leaves our public schools without the resources they need, and fails to address the ongoing need to expand access to health care to the hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians who have lost coverage during this crisis. Senator Tillis has failed the true test of leadership by prioritizing his own political cover, even if it means abandoning North Carolinians in their hour of need.”
Cal Cunningham made his priorities clear in May and continues to call for additional aid to address key priorities for North Carolinians, including by:
Cal has held numerous press calls to listen to the needs of North Carolinians, including small business owners, mayors, education leaders, and representatives from key industries impacted by the crisis. From these conversations, one thing is clear — Senator Tillis has failed to address the challenges of the people he intends to serve.
