Cal Cunningham In Strong Position As Early Voting Begins Tomorrow

Endorsements From North Carolina Association Of Educators, North Carolina AFL-CIO, League Of Conservation Voters & End Citizens United Underscore Clear Contrast Between Cunningham and Tillis

RALEIGH, NC – As voters start heading to the polls tomorrow, Cal Cunningham is in a strong position, having built a coalition of more than 140 local leaders, support in all 100 counties in the state, and more than 7,000 North Carolina donors.

He also boasts strong support in endorsements from key policy groups like North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE), North Carolina AFL-CIO, League of Conservation Voters, and End Citizens United, which highlight a clear contrast between Cal Cunningham and Thom Tillis on four important issues for North Carolinians.

Cal Will Be A Champion For Public Education, Students And Teachers, Unlike Thom Tillis Who Has Been Hostile To Public Education

Just this week, the NCAE endorsed Cal. It is clear that Cal is the candidate who will advocate for North Carolina public schools, teachers, and students. In the State Senate, Cal fought for higher teacher pay and smaller class sizes, while as Speaker of the House, Tillis gutted public education funding. In Washington, Senator Tillis continued to ignore North Carolina teachers and students’ best interests by voting to confirm Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, and voting against legislation to allow student loan borrowers to refinance outstanding debt.

Cal Will Fight For North Carolina Working Families, While Thom Tillis Has Stacked The Deck Against Them

Cal is proud to have endorsements from several labor organizations across the state, including AFL-CIO, the largest association of unions in the state. In the Senate, Cal will fight for an economy that works for everyone, so that North Carolinians have the opportunity to know the dignity of a well-paying job with good benefits, unlike Thom Tillis, who in 2017, voted for the tax bill that overwhelmingly benefited corporations and the ultra- wealthy, while leaving working families behind.

Cal Will Tackle Climate Change Head On, While Thom Tillis Has Left The State Vulnerable To Environmental Threats

In their endorsement of Cal, the League of Conservation Voters recognized his environmental leadership on issues of climate change and environmental protection in both the public and private sector. Cal’s record extends over nearly two decades, from his work as a State Senator to help advance landmark clean air legislation in North Carolina to his time as a business leader working with communities to reduce waste and keep North Carolina clean. Meanwhile, Thom Tillis claimed climate change wasn’t a fact and has put the state’s coast in jeopardy by advocating for offshore drilling.

Cal Will Take On Washington Corruption, While Thom Tillis Is Part Of The Problem

Cal is proud to have the support of End Citizens United, the organization leading the fight to get big money out of politics. This endorsement also highlights an overarching contrast between him and Tillis. Cal has a plan to root out corruption and get big money out of politics, unlike Thom Tillis, who has received more than $2.5 million from corporate PACs and remains beholden to the industries like Big Pharma and oil and gas instead of North Carolina families.

In addition to the over 140 local elected officials and community leaders across North Carolina, including Pam’s Picks, a progressive blog in Watauga County, that have voiced support for his campaign, Cal has also received endorsements from several other organizations, including labor groups like The Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina, Teamsters, and North Carolina Electrical Workers Association.

With these endorsements, North Carolina voters know that on issues from education to the environment, and the economy to corruption, they’re voting for progress with Cal Cunningham.
