RALEIGH, NC — This week, Cal Cunningham’s U.S. Senate Campaign continued to build momentum, gaining key North Carolina endorsements and traveling the state, while Tillis earned the support of Mitch McConnell-aligned special interest groups that have committed to spend $190 million to “protect McConnell’s most endangered incumbents.”
Cal this week released a new list of endorsements, doubling the number of North Carolina leaders backing his campaign for Senate. And just yesterday, Dan McCready, fellow veteran and candidate for NC-09, threw his support behind Cal.
While Cal’s campaign gained steam, Tillis encountered growing signs that his U.S. Senate bid is in trouble.
In the same week Morning Consult’s latest approval ratings revealed that Tillis remains the least popular Senator in the nation, Tillis was also attacked on air by a group backing his primary opponent, Garland Tucker, in a new six-figure ad buy, and knocked by reporters for “not raising the money needed in an expensive state.”
The contrast couldn’t be clearer in North Carolina — Cal is earning support from North Carolina leaders for his Senate bid, as Senator Tillis relies on the help of special interest groups to try to boost his flailing campaign.
